Last night CHEN PR attended the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge’s 2016 Startup Spotlight to watch 30 innovative young companies vie for the evening’s awards such as Company I Want to Have a Beer With, Future Unicorn and Most Likely to Develop a Cult Following.
The aspiring business moguls, representing a cross-section of the region’s innovation economy, gathered at the Microsoft NERD Center last night to showcase their products and services to more than 350 would-be customers, partners, investors, business development and technology experts in attendance at the annual event. The unique event gives budding entrepreneurs a platform to share their companies, ideas and accomplishments with a well-connected, respected and influential audience.
In the end, four of the exhibiting startups took home awards from the event’s quirky categories:
- Company I Want to Have a Beer With: BARS – aquatic therapy devices for people with mobility impairments
- Future Unicorn: Pillar Technologies – construction site risk management
- Most Likely to Develop a Cult Following: Voatz – a secure, mobile-only election platform
- Nutter McLennen & Fish Prize for Most Innovative Company: BeTH – high impact, low cost healthcare solutions for underserved populations
A special shout out to BARS out of the Accelerate Wentworth Innovation + Entrepreneurship Center, who also took home second place last year in the MITEF Beantown Throwdown–an event that has quickly become a CHEN favorite.
Congrats to all the participating startups and cheers to the night’s winners. Just another example of why Boston is where innovation thrives and is a hot spot for young, talented entrepreneurs.
