an excellent reputation for helping companies ranging from startups
to multinationals achieve their business goals through proactive,
results-driven communications programs. Led by the agency's four
founding principals, we assist clients in a variety of areas including
strategic positioning and messaging, product and company launches,
corporate media relations, market research analyst relations, mergers
and acquisitions, repositioning and crisis communications.
As we
launch our new website and e-newsletter, we'll begin by spotlighting
insights by Michael Powell, Chairman of the FCC; John Gallant,
Executive Producer of The VORTEX Conference and President of Network
World; and Susan Ayers-Walker, Chair of the MIT/Stanford
Venture Lab. We're also pleased to highlight CHEN PR's recent
achievements
at JavaOne on behalf of Sun Microsystems.
If you'd like to talk
with us about how we can help your firm generate the media
coverage it deserves, please call Chris Carleton, 781-672-3115. He welcomes the opportunity to discuss how CHEN PR can
be of assistance. Thank you.

Chairman
of the FCC: On Central Communications Policy and Consumers
Michael K. Powell, Chairman of the
Federal Communications Commission, recently sat down with Gartner
Fellow Ken McGee to discuss policies and issues concerning broadband,
telecommunications, media and digital TV. According to Mr. Powell, "As
I look at transitioning to the communication platforms of the future,
I see that the beauty of Internet protocols is you get the separation
of the layers between service and technology. Unlike the phone
system, which is engineered around an application, the Internet
layered model allows you to, in essence, separate applications
from infrastructure. What's exciting about that is almost any platform
can be a broadband bit-carrying platform. The first thing I feel
like we have the potential to do is to..." [READ more from Ken
McGee's Interview with Michael Powell].

The
New Data Center: The Next Wave of Computing
John Gallant,
Executive Producer, The VORTEX Conference and President of Network
World,
aims to define the next wave in computing. Learn more about what he calls
the new data center and how it's "a re-envisioning of the traditional,
physical data center concept that recognizes the increasingly distributed
and virtualized nature of computing and applications, as well as the
changing needs of the extended enterprise and increasingly mobile end
users. Getting to, and capitalizing on, this new environment will require
savvy planning and positioning by customers and vendors..." [READ

Top 100 of 2004 -- How they Compare to the 2003 Graduating Class
At
the second annual AlwaysOn 2004: The Innovation Summit, held July
12-14 at Stanford University in California, the folks at AO teamed
with MIT/Stanford Venture Lab to honor the top 100 hottest private
companies. The nominees were chosen by over 900 technology investors,
customers and visionaries for their potential for success and expectations
of creative products/services promised in their business plans.
Some of the class of 2003 made this year's list, others did not.
According to MIT/Stanford Venture Lab Chair, Susan Ayers-Walker, "So
what did we learn from the AO class of 2003 as we revisited them
and updated their profiles? Where are they today, one year later,
and how did they perform against our expectations?"

Sun
Microsystems and CHEN PR Team
for Successful JavaOne
For the eighth consecutive
year, CHEN PR played a
key role in media and industry analyst relations at JavaOne, the industry's largest and most prestigious Java developer conference. The conference took place June 28-July
1 in San Francisco. On behalf of long-time client Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ:SUNW), CHEN PR was again instrumental in developing and carrying out a strategy to create a massive amount of coverage that supported Sun's
key messages. The JavaOne PR program generated hundreds of media and
analyst briefings and positive articles.
CHEN PR worked with Sun to build a
PR program that extended the excitement and coverage throughout
several weeks, culminating with a number of major announcements
at JavaOne. Partnering with Sun contacts, the agency defined a
strategy to support key messages from a high-level corporate perspective
as well as a more detailed product level. Additionally, pre-briefings
with industry analysts in advance of JavaOne enabled reporters
to quote those industry experts in a manner that ensured well-rounded
and insightful coverage. CHEN PR's strategic planning and first-rate
implementation included handling a wide range of pre-, onsite and
post-JavaOne tactical and logistical details. Doing so effectively
and efficiently facilitated hundreds of reports and articles being
published highlighting Sun products, technologies, strategies and
initiatives. [READ more about CHEN
PR's work with Sun Microsystems].
