Phase Forward CEO Bob Weiler Named Mass Technology Leadership Council 2006 CEO of the Year

Recognized for Outstanding Leadership and Accomplishment

Waltham, Mass. - October 13, 2006 - Phase Forward (NASDAQ: PFWD), a leading provider of data management solutions for clinical trials and drug safety, today announced that President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Weiler was named 2006 CEO of the Year by the Mass Technology Leadership Council, an award that honors individuals who best exemplify leadership and excellence in business and technology. The awards banquet was held at the Marriott Copley Place in Boston on Wednesday evening, October 11, and featured a keynote by Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen.

"The Mass Technology Leadership Council is committed to fostering entrepreneurship and promoting the success of companies that develop and deploy technology across industry sectors. These awards are an important part of this effort," said Joyce L. Plotkin, president of the Mass Technology Leadership Council. "The winners of this year's honors represent the spirit of innovation, the history of accomplishment and the future promise that define the Massachusetts technology community. As CEO of the Year, Bob Weiler, whom I have known for many years, exemplifies all these characteristics and represents the kind of leader we need in Massachusetts."

"I'm privileged to have been selected by the Mass Technology Leadership Council, and grateful to the Council for honoring Phase Forward in this way," said Weiler. "The professional, dedicated team here at Phase Forward, who not only work tirelessly to deliver top notch solutions but are motivated by the impact our technology has on clinical development, drug safety and innovation, deserve much of the credit for this recognition."

Prior to joining Phase Forward in 2002, Weiler had a proven track record as a successful information technology executive at firms such as Lotus Development Corporation, Giga Information Group and Eastman Software. He gained insight into the life sciences industry through his work with Phase Forward customers, specifically focusing on helping them use innovative technology to remove the barriers to safer, more efficient and faster clinical trials. During his tenure, Weiler has helped establish Phase Forward as a market leader, counting among its customers 18 of the top 20 pharmaceutical companies and more than 230 organizations and regulatory agencies worldwide. In 2004, Weiler led Phase Forward to a successful public offering (the only Massachusetts software company to do so that year), and was instrumental in the company's 2005 acquisition of Lincoln Technologies to strengthen its offerings in drug safety.
