Our whole reason for being is to make other companies shine. To get them the visibility and brand recognition they need to compete in today’s global economy—and, in many cases, to make the world a better, safer, more interconnected place. Nothing makes us happier than making a name for someone else.
What do we do? All the things you’d expect from a full-service PR and communications firm: media and analyst relations, message development, positioning, influencing, content writing, program management, fully executed multi-faceted campaigns. But at CHEN we go much deeper. As strategic counselors, we work to establish and ignite the kind of thought leadership that helps tech companies increase sales, expand channels, raise valuations and sustain success.
What are we good at? Building relationships. Driving brand awareness. Collaborating with key influencers. Getting coverage. Raising visibility. Communicating complex topics. Adapting the message to the medium. Defining new markets to make way for a new product, a new solution, a new company, a new approach. Then helping them stand out from the pack.
What makes us tick? We’re passionate about technology and innovation. Security, cloud computing, networking, clean-tech and software are our specialties. We communicate complex topics that need to be explained clearly – and not by engineers. As external consultants, we force you to take off the blinders and look at the big picture.
Who are we? We’re storytellers. Relationship brokers. Brand ambassadors. Confidants. We’re decent, hard-working people who like our jobs, like giving back, and like to keep things in perspective. We’re also media junkies and love to exchange ideas. Follow us, like us, connect with us. And if you’re interested in discussing a long-term relationship, give us a call.
What you see is what you get. Our senior partners are in the loop—on every single account. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
Clients hold Chris in high regard for his quick mind and insightful strategic counsel. He’s a big-picture guy with 25+ years of experience building technology brands in U.S. and global markets. Having worked in corporate and agency roles with companies ranging from publicly traded multinationals to venture-backed startups, his perspectives run wide and deep.
But, he always starts at the same place. What will make his clients’ businesses thrive? Who do they need to reach? What’s required to drive sales, grow market share, raise funding and increase valuation?
Chris has introduced first-to-markets in energy storage, telecommunications infrastructure, security, software and e-business services, to name a few. Prior to co-founding CHEN PR, he served as director of global communications for a $2 billion networking company, VP and partner for one of the country’s first high-tech PR firms, and VP of communications for the world’s largest computer industry trade association. He earned his chops as a reporter and a bartender, crediting both equally as solid footing for his career.
What gets him jazzed? “Passion for the mission.” “Products that change the world.” A champion of entrepreneurship and innovation, he’s active in the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge, serves as a mentor for The Cleantech Open, and guest-lectures college classes about public relations and branding. He’s also a founding board member with Dream Big!, a non-profit helping low-income and homeless girls achieve quality learning experiences and healthy lifestyles through sports and physical activity.
A geek at heart who loves to play with the latest widget or app, Kevin’s pretty old-school when it comes down to business. His mantras: Think like a reporter. Find the best angles. Tell the clients what they need to hear, even if it’s not what they want to hear. Drive coverage in such a way that all parties—clients, reporters, customers, partners and investors—all win out.
More than a decade ago, Kevin helped establish CHEN PR’s security and privacy practice. He now leads it, having earned the rep of being one of the best in the business. (When reporters say that, you know it’s true.) He has an extensive network of sources, contacts and friends—built by consistently coming through for dozens of national, business, tech and industry-specific media outlets. Whether it’s breaking news about a hack or rolling out a category-defining new product, his love of the game is infectious.
Clients describe Kevin as well-grounded, wise-cracking and with a sharp eye for knowing the difference between a good idea and a good business. The favorite parts of his job? Interacting with the people behind really, really cool products and technologies. Informal chats between conference sessions. Exchanging ideas with clients and influencers, big and small. Building mutually productive relationships that last.
In addition to security and privacy, Kevin brings to the table a wide range of experience with clients in the storage, enterprise software, network infrastructure and clean tech sectors. Prior to joining CHEN PR as employee #1, he spent four years at Lois Paul & Partners. It was there that he met Chris Carleton and discovered a mutual passion for technology, bad jokes, high stress and craft beer. The rest, as they say, is history.
We get to interact with a lot of interesting and smart groups and people. Get to know a few of the friends of CHEN PR.
