Cloud-powered archiving and search company Sonian named a Finalist for MassTLC’s15th Annual Technology Leadership Awards

Last Thursday, a bunch of my colleagues from CHEN PR cut through the humidity of the heat wave to attend this year’s Mass TLC’s event. Held at Dassault Systemes’ beautiful new facility in Waltham, the finalists spanning more than a dozen different categories were revealed.

Sonian recently joined the CHEN PR client roster, so we’re thrilled that they were named a Finalist in the Innovative Technology of the Year: Big Data category.

As “Big Data” has captured the attention from just about everyone in the technology industry — garnering lots of buzz and probably just as much discussion with regard to exactly what the term means.

Sonian has planted a stake in the ground, defining Big Data as an amount of digital information that is so large that it requires new architectures to store, manage, search and analyze its value. One of the most common architecture businesses are utilizing today for Big Data is the cloud. Did I mention that Sonian provides cloud-powered information archiving platform enables organizations to address eDiscovery needs, achieve regulatory compliance, and reduce IT costs? And that the company has partnered with the who’s who in the public cloud service arena such as Amazon Web Services (Amazon’s also an investor), IBM, Microsoft, RackSpace and dozens more?

Sonian recently secured $13.6 million in Series C funding and announced new strategic investor OpenView Venture Partners that led the round. Founder and Sr. Managing Director Scott Maxwell of OpenView, and the latest addition to the Board of Directors at Sonian, said that Sonian “is a dynamic company that is capitalizing on the opportunities that Big Data presents by offering a cost-effective, scalable e-mail archiving solution that maximizes the benefits of the cloud. Almost every company faces challenges regarding mailbox management and many of them are looking for a cloud-based solution like Sonian’s.”

Congratulations Sonian and to all the other companies making a splash in the industry! We’ll see you all at the MassTLC Leadership Awards Gala at the Boston Renaissance Waterfront Hotel in Boston on September 13, 2012.
