This week, CHEN PR had the honor of helping Sonrai Security officially announce their company, new Cloud Data Control service and $18.5 million in series A funding that was led by local investors Polaris Partners and TenEleven Ventures.

It was a very busy and successful last couple of weeks, and Sonrai has garnered a lot of attention from the press, including eWEEK, Dark Reading, Security Week, Fortune, PE Hub, Entrevestor, Boston Business JournalBostInno, Xconomy, Channel Daily News,, Channelnomics, and many others.

Gartner predicts that 80% of enterprises will have shut down their traditional data centers by 2025, compared to just 10% today. That’s only six years away!

Sonrai’s service comes at a pivotal time as more enterprises are moving huge volumes of datasets to the cloud. Organizations are running hundreds of cloud accounts across Amazon, Google and Microsoft—and within those accounts, multiple individual data stores—many of which, their IT groups don’t know exist, or the data they contain and the extent to which access is permitted.

It’s become incredibly easy for teams to create cloud accounts and the transfer of data into them can be done quickly. However, with this shift towards moving more data to the cloud for convenience, efficiencies and flexibility, also comes increased risks to organizations, their customers and partners, and the ability to secure and control data in the cloud gets complicated as does compliance.

Sonrai Co-Founders CEO Brendan Hannigan and CTO Sandy Bird are internationally respected as trailblazers in data security, risk and compliance and have worked with each other at Q1 Labs and IBM Security. Over the last several years, they’ve had endless conversations with customers—from CISOs to cloud teams—about the current and emerging challenges for companies transitioning to the cloud. Armed with this insight and years of experience in the security industry, the duo joined forces once again and developed the first cloud data control service to help security and DevOps leaders stop data security threats, ensure compliance and increase efficiencies.

The service is available now and there are numerous customers already benefiting, including the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. Headquartered in New York with offices in Texas and New Brunswick, Canada, Sonrai will focus on the U.S. and Canada and then land and expand globally. Congratulations Sonrai Security!
