The Best Things in Life Have Strings Attached. TUGG Here

A few years ago, leaders from Boston’s technology community created TUGG (Technology Underwriting Greater Good), which is dedicated to catalyzing and spreading social entrepreneurship in New England.
TUGG brings together technology companies, entrepreneurs and venture capital to help young people realize their full potential by empowering individuals and the community to identify important issues and collaborate to solve them. TUGG supports early stage nonprofits by providing education, entrepreneurship, or life experiences to youth.
If you haven’t heard of TUGG, you should check them out. This month, TUGG is involved in two really cool events:
• The Spartan Race, which is being held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 5:00 p.m., Fenway Park at 4 Yawkey Way, Boston, MA. TUGG was given 250 complimentary registrations for local startups to compete for the Boston’s fittest startup crown.
• First Annual 5K Dan Scharfman Memorial race, which is co-sponsored by TUGG and Atlas. The race takes place on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at the Belmont High School Track, Belmont, MA. The event honors the memory of Dan Scharfman, a dedicated IT professional, marathoner and ultra-marathoner who dedicated his life to helping nonprofit organizations maximize the use of technology.
Last month, TUGG had one of their biggest days of the year, Tech Gives Back 2013, which 1,000 tech leaders volunteered at more than two dozen locations throughout the city of Boston, donating more than 5,000 hours of time. In celebration of the successful day and to grant $75K across six outstanding nonprofits, TUGG threw a party at the very hip Empire Restaurant and Lounge, which CHEN PR attended.
One nonprofit in this incredibly inspiring six-pack of nonprofits was Dream Big!—One of my favorites that was named a finalist that night.
Dream Big! was founded by President & CEO Linda Driscoll. The organization helps low-income and homeless girls achieve their dreams by providing the basic items necessary to enable them to participate in sports and physical activities helping to lay the foundation for healthy, active lifestyles and quality learning experiences. I’ve attended one of their fundraisers and met many of the young girls that benefit from Dream Big! and they are all shining stars with very bright futures.
It is true that the best things in life have strings attached and the time you put in makes all the difference—for you, your friends and family, and the community.
